Beach (and a birthday)

Here is a long overdue post from our beach vacation in August. We rented a beach house in Panama City Beach, Florida and enjoyed a few days of sun and sand with my family. Wyatt became quite the fish in the house pool once he got comfortable with his puddle jumper! He still did not care for the sand or the waves at the beach though :( He absolutely refused to walk in the sand!

So, I have been a total blog slacker this summer. I won't make excuses (birthday parties, camping, Indians games, splash park), but I will try to do better in the next few months....maybe :) For now, I am doing a catch up post of our summer fun before we head out to the beach this weekend!!

Finally...I found a little time to get our Easter pics uploaded and edited. With the nicer weather moving in, Wyatt constantly wants to play outside and has decided he does not want to go to bed until the sun does. This has been seriously cutting into my computer time :) Anyways, here is the Easter recap....

Baseball

Wyatt finally made it through an entire Indians game! I don't think he sat down loinger than 5 minutes the whole game, but no major meltdowns still = success! He got a baseball bat and learned a new word "swing". It was only slightly embarrassing that he kept swinging the bat like it was a golf club :) Guess we have some work to do this summer...

Letters

The same child who has worried his mother for months over his lack of words, can suddenly identify and say (most of) his letters! And I had no idea he could do this. I have been so focused on getting him to say words, I have never worked on letters with him. Which leads us to believe he learned this from an iphone app. Not sure if that would be considered a parenting WIN or FAIL, but either way I will take it. At least he is saying something :)

Before reading/looking at these pics, let me say a few things. First, I realize Wyatt is wearing pajamas in alot of our recent pics. Don't judge, it is winter and we haven't gotten out alot :) Second, my house looks like a disaster in ~~most~~ all of these pics. I think once you see them, there will not be a need for an explanation :) Third, these pics were all taken within about a 1-hour period, maybe even less. This kid can get into alot of trouble in no time at all!! I think that about covers it. Here is the little Wy monster...

18 months

So, this post has been in the works for way.too.long!! I have been waiting for myself to upload and edit the few pics I have taken this year and finally got around to it...so here is the 18 month post (only 2 months late).

My baby boy is not quite a baby anymore! How did he get so big....and when will he start listening to me?! He had another good checkup with the doctor, besides the 2 shots of course. He continues to grow like crazy....

Height: 34 1/4 inches ( 90%)
Weight: 24 lbs 6 oz (30%)
He is wearing mostly 24 month clothes. It seems like I am constantly packing clothes away that he has outgrown, and it always makes me a little sad to see them packed away.

Some things Wyatt is up to now:

- Taking one nap a day anywhere from 45 minutes-2 hours. Likes to go to bed early, around 7 pm. Not sure how a night owl like myself ended up with a child who hates to nap and loves to go to bed early!?

- Favorite food is any kind of fruit, especially grapes and blueberries and still loves chicken. Will only eat veggies if they are dipped in ranch or hummus (he loves hummus too!) Loves to dip all his foods!

- Loves to play with any kind of ball, especially his new basketball hoop

- Insists on watching his new DVD player anytime we are in the car, even if it is for 5 minutes :)

- Doing a little better with his words. Picks up any phone, remote, baby monitor, etc, holds it up to his ear and says "hewwo". So cute! Other favorite words are "uh-oh", "dad", "hi", "eyes", "cheese","yah"

- Climbing on everything!

- Hates loud noises, they make him cry :(

-Loves to read books, dance, wear shoes and hats, play with our iphones, and get into everything!

Not sure what to think of his snow gear but he sure loved playing in the snow! He cries when we come inside :(

Loves tools and any chance to "help" Daddy and Mommy around the house!

Here are a few more pics from Christmas. We will pretend like it is not Feb. 1st when I am posting these :) Wyatt still did not quite grasp the "present" concept. He would start to open it, then get distracted by something else and forget all about it. It took 2 days for him to finally open all his gifts. He had no problems playing with them though! It has been nice to have some new toys to play with while stuck inside during the yucky winter weather.

Once again, I have fallen behind on blogging. I will try to get caught up from all of our Christmas activities...starting with our visit to Santa. Wyatt was not a fan. He cried as soon as I sat him on Santa's lap and turned to walk away.

In true Indiana style, December started off ~~freezing~~ festive with our first snow of the season. There wasn't enough to do much playing in, but it did look pretty. Wyatt wanted to check it out so we bundled him up and went outside. Last year Wyatt did not like the snow. This year, he cried when we came inside :)

Shutterfly has long been my favorite photo-sharing and printing site. I have tried others, and find it to have the best picture quality (matte prints) for the price, fast shipping to your home (or pick-up at Target, Walgreens, or CVS), and they usually offer coupons that save big on shipping and products. I also love their share sites (link on the right margin of blog to view our family's) for sharing photos with family and friends and having a safe place to store your photos (very important if your computer crashes I found out the hard way). I also used Shutterfly for Wyatt's birth announcements and fell in love with their flat stationary cards, so I knew I wanted to order those for my Christmas cards. However, the price was not really within our Christmas budget! Then, I came across this promotion, http://blog.shutterfly.com/5358/holiday2010-blog-submission-form/ that Shutterfly is offering (I told you they were great!!). Free cards?? Sign me up! Wyatt has quite the golf swing. Nothing is safe from being launched off his tee...if it appears somewhat round, it will be hit with the club. We aren't sure whether to be impressed or scared. Here is some video to see for yourself.

Halloween

The Friday before Halloween, we visited Zoo Boo with Wyatt's friends Gavin and Dylan. The boys had fun looking at the animals, playing in the hay maze, and of course getting candy! Wyatt loves candy, especially smarties! Of course, I forgot my camera and so these pics are courtesy of Mommy's friends Dawn and Katiri.

On Saturday, we headed down to Mooresville to meet up with friends for the Halloween Hike at the park. It was really pushing Wyatt's bedtime by the time we got started so he was a little cranky, but still enjoyed some lollipops and trick-or-treating with his friends!

100 Acres

One beautiful, warm fall day, we took Wyatt to the IMA to check out the new 100 Acres and enjoy the changing leaves. He loved running around, checking out the sites. What a pretty and fun place to visit, especially with all the fall colors!

15 Months

Finally getting around to Wyatt's 15 month update. He had a good visit to the pediatrician (other than the 3 shots, yuck!). He is still not saying alot of words, so we are working on that and will see how he is doing at his 18 month checkup before doing anything more.
15 month stats:
weight: 22 lbs 10 oz (26%)
height: 33 in (93%) all his height is in his long legs :)

Things Wyatt is up to at 15 months:

- runs, runs, and runs some more!

- favorite word is still "uh-oh", every time he drops something, throws something, knocks something over, the dogs do something bad, etc. that word gets used alot :)
- other words are "dada" (another favorite), "mama", and the occasional "hi", "on", "yum", and lots of babbling
- signs "more", "please", "eat", "drink", "touchdown" (not sure that is an official sign), "hot", and we are working on "thank you"
- loves to read books. brings them to you all the time, and will push your face back to look at the page if you aren't paying attention for a second :)
- cries when you tell him no
- works on his golf swing for long periods of time by placing any ball-shaped object on his golf tee and hitting it with his club
- dances when music comes on
- likes to point out eyes, belly button, and ears (especially on the dogs!)

- tries to kiss all dogs or other animals he comes in contact with

- down to one (1-2 hour) nap per day...Mommy is really missing that second nap!
- suddenly decided that he loves his milk and will chug an 8 oz cup in no time and then throw down the cup when it is empty...I am hoping this is not a habit he continues in his college days!
- is becoming a more picky eater. feeds most of his veggies to the dogs. loves fruit (especially bananas) and chicken.

Pumpkin Patch

A few weeks ago when the weather was nice and toasty still, we took Wyatt to Beasley's Apple Orchard for their annual apple fest. Nanny and Papaw came too. We had a fun time riding the hay ride, picking out a pumpkin, and snacking on kettle corn and carmel apples. Nothing like visiting the pumpkin patch when it is 85 degrees outside! :)

Like Father, Like Son

Here are some more pictures from our North Carolina beach trip. When most people go to the beach, they swim or build sandcastles...but not Derek...he gets out his golf clubs and teaches Wyatt to work on his "sand game" (whatever that means)! And Wyatt was loving it. I can see what they have been doing while I am at work :)

Beach (Take 2)

AKA, Wyatt's First Road Trip....
Just a few weeks after our first big family trip, we were off on another one! This time we headed to Outer Banks, North Carolina for my best friend from high school's wedding. After weighing our travel options, we decided an overnight road trip was our best bet. Luckily for us, it worked out pretty well. Wyatt slept most of the 13+ hour drive both ways while Daddy (and sometimes Mommy) stayed up and drove :) We spent a wonderful 3 days at a beach house with Kathy and Stephen and their family and friends. Here are some pictures from the trip...

View of the beach house across the street and several wild horses...if you aren't familiar with this area, the beach we stayed on (Carova Beach) is accessible by 4-wheel drive only by driving directly on the beach. There are no roads, only sand paths and wild horses live in this area. The drive can be a little scary, but the area is absolutely gorgeous, quiet, and perfect for a private beach wedding!

Wyatt playing on the beach. He did so much better at the beach this trip. As you can see, he actually played in the sand with his bucket and shovel. He still didn't want to go in the water (it was very cold) but still an improvement that I will take :)

As you can see, the wedding was beyond gorgeous and I am so glad that we got to share Kathy and Stephen's special day with them! Seeing her so happy just made me smile :)

Beach

Last week, we took our first official vacation as a family of 3. We headed to Ft Lauderdale, Florida. The trip started out a little rough with a 4 hour flight delay (resulting in 6 hours of quality time spent at the beautiful new airport...although after the few hours we spent in the terribly packed, small Ft Lauderdale airpot, I was very thankful that our delay was in Indy at least!). Wyatt tolerated better than I expected, running without an afternoon nap. There was a minor meltdown before boarding the plane (right around bedtime), but some jammies and a pacifier held us over until he finally fell asleep about an hour into the flight. Luckily, that turned out to be the only major hitch in our vacation plans (unless you consider the boat ride that we tried to go on for 3 days before finally being successfull, but that's another story....).
Wyatt did not really enjoy the beach :( I think the loud waves crashing scared him a little and he didn't like the sand sticking to him. He did play in the pool for short periods of time and loved running around the grounds of the resort checking out the fountains, waterfalls, and lizards! Derek enjoyed a day of golfing with his friend and former roommate who lives nearby and I enjoyed some quiet alone time at the beach and pool during nap time most days. Some other things we did: went on a boat ride on the intracoastal waterways, walked the boardwalk at Hollywood, had dinner on Las Olas boulevard beside the ocean, walked out onto a fishing pier, and visited a science museum. Overall it was a fun trip but we were all glad to be back in our own beds after being gone for a week! Here are some photos from the trip...I have more on the small camera and some video that I still need to upload so I will hopefully post those later :)

Haircut

Wyatt has been in need of a haircut for awhile now, but Mommy was a little nervous/sad about it so has been putting it off :) With a trip to the beach coming up though, I knew it had to be done! Now that it is over, it wasn't bad at all and I am glad that the rat tail is gone! We took him to Cookie Cutters and he got to sit in a red car and watch cartoons while getting his hair cut...you can't beat that! He was pretty well behaved, moved around some but no tears (from him or Mommy). And now he looks like such a big boy!

Wyatt went to his first Colts game last Sunday. It was the first preseason game and Mommy was out of town, so it was the perfect opportunity for a Father/Son trip to Lucas Oil. Daddy says that Wyatt did great for the first quarter, then Peyton went out of the game, nap time came, and things went downhill fast for everyone (if you were watching that game, you know what I mean, if not, let's just hope Peyton doesn't have to miss many snaps this season or things could get ugly! :)

Once again, I have been a blog slacker....and don't expect it to get any better because the next few months, we have lots of fun trips and other events planned to keep us nice and busy! But, I will try to catch up a little bit before our big Florida trip in less than 2 weeks!
We had another photo shoot with my friend Elizabeth (Eliza Marie Photography) for Wyatt's one-year pics and some family ones. Our first session only lasted about 15 minutes, thanks to a big thunderstorm that came through. Our second attempt, the weather was a little more cooperative! Wyatt actually did pretty well, considering his history of not smiling for the camera :) Elizabeth did a great job of capturing his little personality and got some of our first family pictures with Wyatt actually smiling!

So hard to believe that a whole year has passed since Wyatt came into our world and changed everything about it! It has been a fabulous year and I am thankful every day for my healthy, happy, energetic, sweet, and adorable little boy!
To celebrate Wyatt's big first birthday, we had an ocean-themed party and cookout at our house on the big day. It was a sunny, warm day filled with family, friends, food, presents, swimming, and of course cake! Wyatt was spoiled rotten with tons of gifts, which he had no interest in opening but loved playing with all his new toys. He loved his chocolate cake and completely demolished it...but not before sharing bites with the dog, Papaw, and Mommy!

We had a fun-filled 4th of July weekend that included an Indians game, fireworks, finishing the kitchen makeover, a visit downtown to the State Museum and Eiteljorg, a (very hot) walk along the canal, cookout with my parents, and more fireworks. The 4th of July happens to be my favorite holiday, so I was very excited to share it with Wyatt and take him to his first fireworks. Sadly, he did not feel the same love for fireworks that his Mommy does...he was terrified of them :( Derek actually had to take him back towards the car during the fireworks because he was crying so hard. Poor buddy...hopefully it will be better next year!

Mini Kitchen Makeover

So, I know that you all really just come here to see all the (ridiculously cute) pictures of Wyatt, but I thought I would mix things up a little and post some pictures of our (meaning Derek and my Dad's) lastest home project! It all started with our fridge going out and escalated into a mini kitchen makeover complete with new fridge, range, paint, and backsplash. 11 Months

I have not been a very good blogger lately. We have had lots of fun activities keeping us busy! So far this summer Wyatt has been to the zoo several times (loving our zoo pass!), the splash park, an Indians game, swimming pool, and several Memorial Day cookouts...and it is only June :) Not to mention the big news this month...Wyatt is walking!! He is constantly on the move and keeps us on our toes at all times!

Besides the big walking news, some other things Wyatt is up to at 11 months:

-Eats pretty much anything and everything, except does not like whole milk (guess we have some work to do over the next month)! Still nurses a few times a day and takes formula when Mommy works.

Warm weather is finally here and that means pool time!! Wyatt really likes the water. He loves splashing around in it. I can't wait to see how he does in a big pool and the ocean (in August)!!!

10 Months

Running a little behind on the 10 month post. We have been battling sickness in the McMillan house the past several weeks. Wyatt had a nasty cold that turned into a double ear infection (his first...not exactly a first we were happy about!). Then, after 10 days of antibiotics, he broke out in hives (another first)....and still had an ear infection. Now we are working on another 10 day course of a stronger antibiotic and hoping that makes him a healthy boy (and doesn't produce more rashes!). He has been a trooper through it all, the only way I knew that his ears were still bothering him was that he was waking up at night and having trouble going back to sleep, otherwise he has been pretty happy. Moving onto brighter subjects....here are some pics from our 10 month photo shoot. As usual, Wyatt didn't sit still for longer than 2 seconds but at least he smiled :)

Some things Wyatt is up to now:

-Crawling very fast everywhere...there are multiple baby gates up at our house now :)

-Pulls to stand and able to stand alone for several seconds

-Walks while holding onto objects

-Loves to open drawers and pull out what is inside

-Still nursing 3-5 times per day and eating mostly table food...LOVES snacks

-Climbs up stairs

-Loves to read books with Mommy (for short periods of time)

-Knows how to open the drain in the bathtub and finds it very- fascinating!

-Likes to watch Sesame Street on TV

-Has 2 front bottom teeth and is learning to use them for everything...opening the lid on his puffs, biting Mommy's shoulder, knawing on his crib, etc

-Hates to be told no when he wants something and does not easily forget what he is going after :)

One of the best things about warmer weather is being able to enjoy an ice cream treat! Wyatt nearly grabbed the cone out of Mommy's hand to try a bite. Big surprise, he liked it...and made a sticky mess!

Tooth

We finally have a tooth!! Wyatt's bottom right tooth (finally) popped through the day after his 9-month birthday. Didn't seem to bother him any more than usual, thankfully. The other bottom one seems to be close behind. Check out that pearly white!

9 months old!? Where did my little baby go? Wyatt is crawling now and never sits still so this photo shoot was particularly difficult! Most of the 200+ photos we took looked something like this:

What Wyatt is up to now:

- prefers to feed himself finger foods...will pick up and eat pretty much anything (including dirt and mulch!)

- nurses morning/night and a few times throughout the day

- Crawling all over the place!

- Does not like to be confined to anything...carseat, exersaucer, stroller, etc.

- Loves to be carried by mommy in his carrier, especially while taking the dogs for a walk!

Wyatt had a great first Easter. The weather was sunny, we had dinner with family, and the Easter Bunny came to visit! We spent Easter afternoon playing outside at Nanny and Papaw's, riding in the wagon, blowing bubbles, swinging and sliding. Wyatt had such a fun day that he was in bed at 7pm!! Finally getting to Wyatt's 8 month post...I did actually take the pictures on time just haven't had the chance to upload and edit them until now. This full-time work schedule (and baby on the move) is really cutting into my computer time! :) We had another "short" photo session this month... we are still struggling with consistent naps during the daytime, so poor napping=short attention span. Not to mention, that he never stops moving! I have a feeling these photo sessions are not going to get any easier in the coming months :)

Things Wyatt is up to at 8 months:

- His favorite activity is still the walker. He loves to run around the house in it chasing the dogs and trying to get ahold of everything he isn't supposed to...Daddy's guitar is his new favorite "toy" :)

- Loves to feed himself, especially anything he can hold onto...bananas, graham crackers, the mesh feeder. Always trying to stuff as much as possible in his mouth...just like a boy :)

- Army crawls on his belly...rocks on all 4's then drops to belly and scoots everywhere!

- favorite thing to say is "uh-oh", also says mamama and bababa (don't think he really knows what they mean though!)

- gives big slobbery open mouth kisses (mommy's favorite when she gets home from work) and tight hugs

-has started turning himself to his belly to sleep at night

Wyatt has outgrown his baby bathtub and is now taking baths in the big boy tub. He likes it for the most part, but gets tired of it pretty quick (maybe I spent too long taking pics?). He does enjoy having toys in there with him, but does not like the water running down his face during his hair wash.

Wyatt spent his first Valentine's Day hanging out at home with Daddy since Mommy had to work all weekend. Typical boys' weekend...hanging out at home playing PS3 and watching golf :)

7 Months

Just a week late :) Our 7 month photo shoot was not the best...Wyatt was really not in the mood and for some reason, I was not focusing the camera very well. Oh well, guess there is always next month to try again :)

Things Wyatt has been doing this month:

- Figured out how to walk forward and maneuver in his walker. He is really enjoying this new found freedom and being able to explore (get into things) and chase the dogs around the house.

-Eating lots of fruits and veggies, yogurt (loves), puffs, cheerios, animal crackers, and loves to try bites of whatever you are eating!

- Rocks forward to hands and knees from sitting, but no actual crawling yet.

- Lots of drooling and chewing but no teeth yet.

- Can drink from a sippy cup by himself (pretty much)

Superbowl

We were very excited to cheer for the Colts in the Superbowl! Unfortunately, the game did not turn out the way we would have liked, but at least Wyatt looked cute and got to sport his Colts gear for one more week :) We still had a great season and there is always next year...only 6 months til training camp!

(yes, I do realize that the outfit is partially unsnapped...Wyatt is not very patient when you have lots of snaps to do and I realized as I was taking them off that I should get a pic first, so I guess I just didn't finish snapping? Sometimes I have to wonder about myself....)

So, do you like how Wyatt's hair is completely crazy right now? It is getting longer right down the middle and does not stay in place so he has a bit of a mohawk...at least they are in style right now :)

Snow

Wyatt finally got to experience snow for the first time on Superbowl Sunday. It was not the first snow that he has seen, just the first one we let him touch and take his picture in :) He was not very impressed...

Note: I did not intend to let him touch the snow without a glove...somehow in the process of getting outside we lost a glove and I didn't realize it until we started taking pictures. At that point, I was not going back in to search for it, so we made it a quick photo op :)

6 Month Photos

Last weekend, we took Wyatt to Portrait Innovations to get his picture taken. As usual for him, he was not excited about it. I made sure to arrive early to have time to feed him and to make sure he was awake from the car ride (of course he didn't even fall asleep in the car this time). Still didn't help...I think he just doesn't like the bright lights and strange lady with the camera. The beginning of the shoot looked alot like this:

Luckily, the photographer was very patient and worked hard to get some smiles, even when he kept whining for Mom to pick him up :) You can still see the tears in his eyes even though he is smiling:

No smiles here but at least there aren't tears (although he did get mad at one point and nearly threw himself out of this chair, luckily I was close by to catch the little monster) :)

Happy half-year birthday to my sweet little boy!

Wyatt's 6 month stats:

weight: 17lbs 11oz (55th %)

height: 28 in (93rd %)

head: 58th %

Wyatt had his 6 month checkup today. His weight is finally leveling out (which the doc says is normal and fine) and he is still tall (a fact that makes Daddy happy and less worried that he is going to be a shorty like his Mom)! The doc gave him an A+ for health and strength! Poor boy had to have 3 shots, but at least now we have a break from shots for awhile :)

Some of the things Wyatt is up to now:

-sits by himself

- chatters alot, even said dada the other day

- loves to laugh, especially when you tickle his chunky thighs :)

- eating several fruits and veggies...his favorites are sweet potatoes and pears

- is quite the mama's boy right now

- very interested in the computer and cell phones...can you tell what he sees mom and dad doing alot??

- is now sitting up in carts and high chairs when he goes out to stores/restaurants (although he prefers to be held or standing in my lap most of the time we are out!)

-has started holding and trying to drink from his sippy cup and an open cup (this usually results in most of the water running down our shirts)!

More Christmas...

We couldn't quite fit all our Christmas celebrations into just 2 days so they continued through the new year! The day after Christmas, we celebrated with Grandpa McMillan, Bridget, Jonathon, and Trevor. We spent the afternoon playing with Wyatt, opening gifts, and took the boys (including the big ones) to get new video games!

Wyatt met Santa for the first time this weekend. He did a pretty good job considering we had to wait outside in the snow and cold for about 15 minutes before Santa was ready for us. He did cry a little but smiled some too so we were able to get a few decent pictures. 5 Months

So, I am running a little behind on my 5 month post....let's just blame it on Christmas :) Wyatt thinks he is such a big boy now that he is 5 months. He is really starting to move and wants to grab/get into everything! I can already tell that we will be in trouble soon! :) He is only cranky when hungry and/or really tired and is a complete joy to be around. He makes me smile everyday and I feel so lucky to be his mommy!

Some things Wyatt is doing this month

- Sitting unassisted for short periods of time using his arms for support...loves to sit supported by the boppy and play with his toys

- Still loves the jumparoo and his playmat

- Likes to lay on his back and play with his feet

- so far has ate rice cereal, baby oatmeal, sweet potatoes (loved!), and avocado (tolerated). On this note, I am attempting to make my own baby food. So far, it has been pretty easy, but he has only had 2 foods, so we will see how it goes as we continue to introduce more :)

-continues to nurse well and frequently :)

- turns on his side but hasn't quite rolled over yet

- loves to pet and watch the dogs

- usually sleeps from 10p to 5-6a, quick feed, then back to sleep until 8-9a (occasionally skips the feed and sleeps through) Struggles a little with naps some days...he doesn't want to miss anything! Most days he takes 3-4 naps ranging from 15 minutes-2 hours (see what I mean!). I am not complaining though...as long as he sleeps at night, I am happy :)

- makes lots of sounds, laughs alot, and has discovered his (happy) scream and fake cough :)

We are looking forward to Wyatt's first Christmas in just a few days! Hope everyone has a happy and healthy holiday!! Merry Christmas!

Christmas Photo Shoot

Since we got our new camera, we are trying to do our own photo shoots instead of taking Wyatt to a studio. This was our first attempt and it went ok. I had more things I wanted to try but we ran out of time so maybe try again next weekend. Our biggest problem is getting enough light to get the best pictures since we don't have studio lighting...this means that we need some sunshine (as well as a happy, cooperative baby, haha)! Wyatt still gets serious/scared when the camera comes out, but he seems to be warming up a little with some good distractions!! Here are a few of my favorites...

Oh, also, did you notice anything new about these? No, it is not a camera trick...Wyatt is sitting up by himself (just for short periods before taking a head dive, but he is getting better everyday)!!

New Discoveries

Wyatt has been noticing everything lately and gets very interested in new things. This is great, except that he gets very distracted by every little noise/movement while eating. This gets very frustrating to Mommy because then he wants to eat every 5 minutes because he can't stay focused long enough to finish a meal! It is really fun though to watch him discover new things. Recently, he has found his feet and has started putting them in his mouth!!

He has also found out how much fun a helium balloon can be! Talk about cheap entertainment! :) He thinks the balloon is so funny!

Wyatt tried rice cereal for the first time this week! I think most of it ended up on his bib, but he did manage to swallow a little of it :) He would open his mouth wide for the spoon, then wasn't too sure what to do once the cereal was in his mouth. The second time we tried it was more successful! He was even grabbing my hand with the spoon and putting in toward his mouth...I have a feeling he is really going to like mealtime once he gets it all figured out (and gets something a little tastier)!

4 Months

Wyatt's 4 month stats:

Weight: 16 lbs 2.5 oz (76%)

Length: 26.5 in (86%)

Head Circumference: 16.5 in (44%)

The doctor says he is very healthy and strong! He was a trooper for his shots as usual...cried for a minute then was back to smiling and flirting with the nurse in no time :) The doctor also gave us the go ahead to try feeding him some rice cereal, so we will be trying that soon!!

Wyatt is learning new things and changing every day it seems. Some of the things he likes/does now:

-sleeping in his own crib!

-loves to jump in the jumparoo and on your lap

-sits with support for short periods, although he prefers to stand!

-likes to cuddle with his lovey, especially when he is sleepy

-reaches out and grabs his toys and usually puts them right in his mouth

-loves lights and music

-laughs and squeals when he gets excited

-likes to pull hair...mine and the dogs (luckily it is usually Dylan that he gets a hold of and she doesn't mind)

-he is now wearing mostly 6-9 month sleepers because he is so long!

Wyatt got some new hand-me-down toys this weekend (thanks Aunt Aunt Dawn and Uncle Uncle David!) He really loves the jumparoo! He goes crazy in that thing! It is so funny to watch and really wears him out! Here is some video of him in the jumparoo.

On Saturday, the weather was perfect for our first trip to the zoo. We met up with some friends and had a good time seeing all the animals. It was busy, but Wyatt was a trooper. The only animal he really paid attention to was the goats! One came up close to him and he reached out to pet him. He probably thought it was just a big dog :) Here are some pictures from our trip!

We celebrated Wyatt's first Halloween on Saturday. He dressed up like a monkey. We trick or treated to the neighbors' house and to Granny and Pappy's. Wyatt was not sure what to think about the whole situation. He was not real into having his picture taken in his costume and really just wanted to take a nap! He made an awfully cute monkey though :)
Last year on Halloween we had just found out we were pregnant. Hard to believe how much your life can change in a year, but what a great year it has been! We are so blessed and can't wait to see what the next year brings!!

Little Pumpkin

Last weekend when the sun finally came out, we took Wyatt on his first trip to the pumpkin patch. We went to Beasley's Apple Orchard. Wyatt mostly slept while we were there but he woke up enough to get a few pictures and enjoy the hayride to the pumpkin patch!

3 Months

Don't you just love those roly poly thighs and kissable cheeks! Wyatt is such a big boy! At 3 months, his personality (and a little attitude) are really starting to show. In general, he is still happy and smiling most of the time as long as someone is paying attention to him :) The attitude comes out when he decides he wants to eat...all is good if Mom is around, but wait around for a bottle, what's that about??!

He has really started noticing and enjoying his toys, especially if they light up and play music. This has been great for Mom because he will actually lay on his playmat and be entertained for short periods of time! If only I could keep the dogs out of his face when he is trying to play, I could really get something done! He has been noticing the dogs more lately too and he laughs when they lick him and tries to reach out for them. He has also discovered how to put his hand in his mouth!

Many people have asked how it is going now that I am back to work full-time. Even though I have been lucky enough to not work a full week yet (thanks VTO!), it has still been hard. Daddy and Grandpa have been doing great with him, but he is just starting to realize when Mommy is not here and when his milk is coming from a bottle. It is especially hard to sleep during the day knowing that he is awake. I am hopeful that is will get better as we all get adjusted and find a routine that works. Although, it does make me treasure my time with him even more and there is nothing better than seeing his big smile after a long night at work!

Chatty Boy

How did he get so big??! Wyatt is growing so fast and changing every day it seems! He is meeting all of his developmental milestones so far and still eating like a champ! He is full of smiles and laughs most of the time. He likes being snuggled, talked to, going for walks in his stroller, watching the TV (yikes!), sitting in his vibrating seat, and kicking his legs! We feel very lucky and blessed to have such a healthy, easygoing little man with the most kissable cheeks!!

In other news, this is my last week of maternity leave. I start back to work next Tues. I will be working 3 12-hr night shifts every week so Derek gets full-time Daddy duty at night, then Wyatt will go to Grandpa's house during the day while I sleep. I am nervous and sad to leave him but know that he will be in good hands. Hoping for a smooth transition for all of us!

Rolling

Last Friday on Wyatt's 8-week birthday, he rolled for the first time from his belly to his back during tummy time. I am not sure that it was intentional at the time, I think he was trying to get away from the dogs licking him in the face! He did it twice right in a row then didn't do it again for several days. When he finally did it again this week, I didn't quite have the camera ready but was quick enough to catch the end of it on video. You can't tell from the video, but he did start out on his belly, I promise! :)

Photo Session

I was only planning to have Wyatt's picture taken professionally every three months, but he has already changed and grown so much since his newborn pics that I just couldn't wait any longer! I decided to try out Portrait Innovations in an effort to not spend a fortune. It kinda worked :) Overall, I am pretty happy with the way the pictures turned out. I mean, they aren't as good as Randy's work but you get what you pay for, right! The best part was that I had pictures in hand when leaving the studio and the price was reasonable for the massive amount of pictures I got! They probably would have turned out better if Wyatt was being a little more cooperative too. He has been so smiley lately when I talk to him so I thought for sure I would be able to get him to smile. I was wrong :) He was full of smiles at home before we left, so we tried to keep him awake in the car without success. He fell asleep about 10 minutes before we got there. Of course, they were ready for us as soon as we got to the studio, so he woke up to bright lights and a strange lady with a camera in his face. He was not very happy. I was able to get him to smile for about 2 pictures :) Oh well, he is cute even when not smiling! Guess we will just have to try again next month :)

Last weekend we took Wyatt on his first road trip to Saugatuck, Michigan. It was about a 3 hr drive. He did great in the car....slept most of the time. We had a great time hanging out with friends! The weather finally cooperated the last day we were there and Wyatt got to experience the beach for the first time. He slept most of the time we were there too...I think he liked the sound of the waves!

I was able to catch a few of Wyatt's smiles on video. He tends to be very happy and smiley in the mornings after he eats. He must get that from his Dad because I am not a morning person at all (that is why I work night shift)! I think Daddy may have told him that he better smile if he is waking Mommy up before 9 am! :) This morning after he ate, I tried to lay him back down in his pack n play to get a little more sleep. Instead of going to sleep, he starting smiling and laughing at the teddy bears on his mobile! Seeing him smile is the best feeling, even when it means I am getting up earlier than I like :)

Here we are modeling our Peyton Manning jerseys, getting ready for the first preseason game. Unfortunately, Wyatt had to stay at Grandma and Grandpa's while Mom and Dad went to the game. He didn't seem to mind much :) I think he has a different Colts outfit for almost every game so stay tuned for more to come....looking forward to football season!!

One Month Old!

Wyatt had his one month check up at the doctor on Thursday. I can't believe how much he has grown over the past month! Here are his stats from this visit:

Weight: 10 lbs 11 oz (74th percentile)

Length: 22 in (68th percentile)

OFC: 35 1/2 cm (8th percentile)

He has gained 4 lbs in his first month!! No wonder he eats all the time :) And he still has a little head...at least it is growing! He is meeting all his developmental milestones so far and the nurse and doctor couldn't believe how alert and active he is. He didn't even cry when we stripped him down for his weight. We will see what they say next month when it is shot time....

He is starting to smile alot when you talk to him and it is so cute! I love hearing him make new little noises when he gets excited. He is also starting to really enjoy bathtime. He especially likes to have his hair washed with the warm water running over his head :)

Wyatt enjoyed his first official Indians game on mommy's birthday. He liked being carried by Daddy in his carrier but wanted to be held during the game. He wasn't sure what to think about all the noise at the game. Luckily, living with Peyton has made him pretty used to loud noises :)

Growing Boy

So I have been running a little behind on my blog updates...I have found it is a little more difficult with Wyatt around! He keeps me pretty busy! I haven't quite figured out how to type one-handed very well, so the blog has suffered :) Right now, he is laying in my lap asleep, so let's hope it lasts...

Time is flying, just like everyone said it would! Wyatt is 4 weeks old today...too bad the last 4 weeks of pregnancy didn't go this fast :) He is getting so big already! He has outgrown alot of his newborn outfits, mainly in length. He loves to eat, but is not a very good burper, which means that I spend alot of time with him on my chest trying to keep him from spitting up. Which, he usually ends up doing anyway :) Sometimes, I feel like that is all I get done is feeding and burping him. I have been lucky that he has taken well to breastfeeding. The bad news is that I have discovered that his tummy is sensitive to dairy...and I love to eat ice cream in the evenings! However, I have decided that the ice cream is not worth being up half the night with a baby with a tummy ache (it is still tempting at times!).

He had his first pediatrician appt when he was 6 days old and proved to be very healthy! Here are the stats from that visit:

weight: 7lbs 3oz (32nd percentile)

length: 21 in (90th percentile!)

OFC: 32 1/2 cm (7th percentile)

So, looks like we have a tall skinny boy with a small head :) Since he had gained enough weight since birth, we don't go back for a weight check until 1 month old, which is next week. I can't wait to see how much he has grown. I am guessing that he weighs around 8 1/2 or 9 lbs now. Here are some pics:

Photo Shoot

Wyatt had his first photo shoot when he was 6 days old. The photographer who did our wedding came to our house and took the photos for us (Randy Baughn-www.randallsonline.com). I think they turned out beautiful! Randy is a fabulous photographer and great to work with. Wyatt was awake the entire hour that we were taking pictures. We don't have one pic of him with his eyes closed! We even stopped for a feed during the session and still no sleep! At least the pacifier kept the crying to a minimum :) Here are a few of my favorite pictures:

We brought Wyatt home from the hospital on Sunday and officially started our new life as a family of 3 (+ 2 dogs). He seemed to like his carseat and slept through the car ride home. My parents were at our house to help us introduce the dogs to Wyatt. They were very curious about him and excited to meet him! Dylan wants to lick him as much as we let her, especially his ears. Luckily, Wyatt doesn't seem to mind the extra kisses :) Peyton has already become protective over him and yaps at Dylan when she tries to lick him too much! They like to be able to see him at all times and follow whoever is holding him around. They are getting more used to him now and settling down alot. I am so thankful that they are adjusting well to him being around because I was a little worried! Here are some pics:

Hospital Pics

Our hospital stay was pretty uneventful and we were able to go home 48 hours after Wyatt was born. All of his tests have come back normal so far and he appears to be a very healthy baby. He is moderately tongue-tied, just like his mama :) The main concern with this is that it can make breastfeeding more difficult. He seems to be doing pretty well so far, so we are going to wait and see how it goes before deciding to clip it. I just couldn't bring myself to put him through another procedure after the circumcision! So far, he has been pretty laid back and only gets really upset with diaper changes because of the circ. He really likes to be held and cuddled and even holds his own pacifier in his mouth! He is a little jaundiced but still within acceptable limits so we will do a little sunning at home and hope that helps enough. While in the hospital, Wyatt had many visitors. He was able to meet all 4 of his grandparents, 4 of his great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends!

I have been recovering well. The first day was a little rough because I was up all night laboring, then never really able to sleep with everything going on...it didn't help that I couldn't stop staring at the little man :) I lost alot of blood in the first 24 hours...my hemoglobin dropped from 12 pre-delivery to 7.9. Thankfully, the bleeding slowed down and my doctor didn't make me have a transfusion since I wasn't really symptomatic (sorry if that is TMI for anyone!). I get a little dizzy if standing up too quick but hopefully the iron supplements and time will help get it back to normal. I was surprised by how sore all my muscles were in my arms and neck the next day from pushing during labor! It still feels like I lifted about 1,000 weights :)

Derek has been a great new daddy. He stayed at the hospital the whole time and is doing well with his new daddy duties. His first diaper change, Wyatt pooped all over the place, but he handled it with ease :) We are thankful that he is taking the week off work to stay home with us!

Wyatt's Arrival

Here is the story of Wyatt's arrival into the world. I will try to keep it brief and G-rated for those reading this who aren't my nurse friends :) Besides, I know you really just came here to see the pics :) First, here is my final belly pic before heading to the hospital (39 weeks, 6 days):

Derek and I checked into the hospital on Thursday evening after enjoying our "last" dinner at Fazoli's. We got settled into our labor and delivery room and I got hooked up to the monitors. The contration monitor showed that I was having contractions about every 8 minutes, which was news to me because I didn't really notice them! The resident checked me and I was 1 cm dilated, 50% effaced, and started the Cytotec medication (pill placed up against the cervix to help it soften/dilate) at 7pm. The plan was to leave the medication in place for 4 hours, check cervx again and redose every 4 hours based on progress. Within 20 minutes of placing the med, I started having contractions regularly every 2-3 minutes! I started to feel them a little more, but they were still tolerable at that point.

At 11 pm I got up to the bathroom before I was due to be checked and get more meds and my water broke! The resident checked and I was at 3cm. They decided not to do any more medication at that point and see how I progressed. After my water broke, the contractions started to get more painful, so I got a dose of Nubain. The Nubain made me feel dizzy and more sleepy but didn't really take away the pain. It also made Wyatt sleepy, his heartrate fell to the 120's from the 150's. He seemed to be doing ok, just sleepy. By about 1:30 am, the contrations were really painful, I was dilated to 4cm so we decided to go ahead and do the epidural. Derek stayed in the room for it, and did great :) It really wasn't bad at all compared to the pain of the contractions! The relief after it took effect was heavenly! I could still feel the contrations but they were tolerable and I could talk and even rest! I was checked again around 4am and had progressed to 6 cm. The effects of the Nubain were finally wearing off and Wyatt's heartrate was back to normal. We tried to rest a little and planned to have the resident check me again at 6:30. Then around 5:45 am, I started having really intense back pain. The nurse called the anesthesiologist to give me more meds. The resident was in another delivery and wasn't able to check me right away. The nurse went ahead and checked me and we found out why I was having so much pain...I was at 10cm and Wyatt was ready to come out! My doctor was still 30 minutes away, so I got more pain meds and waited for her to get there. I started pushing around 6:45 (this is where I will spare you the details ;)) and Wyatt entered the world at 8:03 am on his due date, healthy and perfect! Hearing him cry for the first time was the best sound!

6 lbs. 12 oz. 21 in. long

40 Week Doctor Appt

I had my final doctor's appt today. The bad news is that I had no more progress from last week even after working the last 2 nights! My belly is only measuring at 34, but she said it is probably because he has dropped. My doctor gave me the option to go ahead with an induction at the end of this week or beginning of next week. We decided to go ahead this week, since she is available and before he continues to get bigger and more difficult to come out! :) So, I am going to the hospital tomorrow (Thursday) evening to start Cytotec (cervix ripening medicine) and then will start Pitocin (contraction medicine) on Friday morning and hopefully have a baby by sometime Friday afternoon/evening!! We are excited and nervous! It is hard to believe that this will be our last night at home without a baby! Derek is planning to have the laptop at the hospital with us so he can be updating the blog and let everyone know when Wyatt makes his big debut. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers that everything goes well, and Wyatt arrives safe and healthy :) Thanks!!

39 Weeks and still pregnant...

Well, here we are at 39 weeks. I can't believe how close it is to Wyatt's arrival, yet every day seems to take forever! I guess I had my hopes up that he would be here by now, but at least the end is in sight and very near!! Overall, I have been feeling ok for having a full-size baby taking up all the space in my belly :) Even with the limited space, he is still managing to perform dance moves in there and loves to run his foot/knee along my ribs and side!

I had my weekly doctor appointment last Wednesday and finally had a little progress...1-2 cm dilated, 25% effaced. Not alot, but it was good news, considering the week before, I was not dilated at all. I have been having a few mild contractions at random times, but nothing that has been all that painful. I go back to the doctor on Wednesday this week and we will schedule an induction then, most likely for the end of the week. I am hoping and praying that things will get started on their own before that, but am willing to be induced if that is what it takes to get him here :) The car seat is in the car, so we now officially have everything ready to go! Hoping to have a baby this week!!

Thought I would share another funny picture with you. Since we don't have a baby yet to practice on, we had to use Peyton to try out our new baby wrap. As you can see, he looks thrilled to be in it....hopefully Wyatt likes it better :) Not to mention, it was a little difficult to use with my big belly in the way!

37 Weeks

Officially "full-term"! It is a good feeling to know that Wyatt can arrive any time now! I am starting to get pretty anxious for him to get here. I am getting more and more uncomfortable as it gets hotter outside and I keep getting bigger. The skin on my belly feels like it can't grow anymore...it is so itchy and sore! Sleep is becoming harder between the heartburn that I get every time I lay down and the frequent bathroom breaks. Can you tell that I am ready?? :) I am really trying to enjoy these last few weeks of having him all to myself and feeling him move around all the time, but the frequent jabs to the ribs and everywhere else is getting a little old too! I am ready to hold him...and let his Dad carry him for awhile :)

I had my now weekly doctor appointment on Friday. Everything is still looking good, including my b/p. I am currently measuring at 35 weeks, so not too bad. His head is down and low but no other progress :( Not having many contractions either, just some general cramping/stretching and lots of pelvic pressure when I am up walking alot. So, just waiting for something to happen and trying to keep occupied in the mean time! The nursery is ready, the pack-n-play is set up in our bedroom, hospital bag mostly packed, and we just need to get the car seat installed in the car. Almost there!

Baby Shower with the Girls

My college girlfriends hosted a baby shower for us on Saturday. It is always fun when us girls are able to get together! Although, it is different these days with lots of little ones running around and keeping everyone busy :) I can't wait for Wyatt to join in the fun and get ready for Spring Break 2025!! I am so glad that 6 years after college, we still remain close and still have a great time together! Here are some pics from the day...

Wyatt finally got some "I love Mommy" gear! After our last shower, I was a little sad that pretty much all of Wyatt's clothes were "I love Daddy" stuff. So, after opening several "mommy" items, I found out that Derek had spread the word to my friends :) So, now he is equally outfitted!

34 week Checkup

I had my 34 week checkup with the doctor on Friday. Another boring appointment and good report :) I was only measuring a week behind this week!! This means the belly is finally catching up and Wyatt seems to be growing right on track :) He is still head down with his butt in my ribs and his feet kicking me in the side. I think he has moved down just a little because I can breathe a little easier...until I eat a big meal anyways :) I am meeting with a pediatrician in the office just across the street from my neighborhood on Monday. Hopefully that will go well and I can check another thing off my never-ending to do list! Here is my 34 week belly:

33 Weeks

Only 7 weeks to go!! I feel like my stomach can not get any bigger, but I am sure it will! I am still feelling pretty good overall. It is getting more and more difficult to roll over in bed, and always hurts my stomach when I do. I have been slathering on the cocoa butter in an attempt to keep the stretch marks away, so we will see how that goes! I have been lucky to not have any swelling yet, even as the weather is getting warmer. Wyatt has been letting me know that he is not entirely happy with his not-so-spacious accomodations right now! He is all over the place, shifting and squirming and kicking me in the ribs, bladder, side, etc. I think he is going to be happy to get out of there and stretch :) Here is my 33 week belly shot and some updated pics of the nursery after our last shower:

Family Baby Shower

We had our family baby shower this past Sunday (I am a little behind on my updates this week...it has been a little busy!). My aunts and my brother's girlfriend Nicole, did a great job putting the shower together and Wyatt got lots of goodies! The nursery is really coming together and his closet is starting to fill up :) We are so lucky to have lots of family who are anxiously waiting to meet Wyatt and are thankful for everyone's generosity! 32 week Checkup

I had my 32 week doctor appt on Friday. It was very uneventful, which works for us :) My b/p and Wyatt's heartbeat are both still good. I gained another pound and only measured 2 weeks small this time! My doctor pointed out that I really need to pick a pediatrician so I guess we will be working on that in the next few weeks!
